Sell Your Surplus IT Hardware by the Lot

GTR Supply buys surplus, overstock and decommissioned IT hardware by the lot: servers, storage arrays, networking, drives, memory, processors, graphics cards, laptops and desktops. Working stock, untested lots and end of life equipment are all bought, from a single pallet through to a full data center decommission. You do not need to have tested, sorted or graded anything first. Testing is what we do here, and a lot that has been picked over is usually worth less than the same lot left intact, because the parts that come out first are the ones carrying the value. Send whatever list you already have, a manifest, an asset register, or photographs and rough quantities, and a valuation normally comes back the same business day. Drives are securely wiped and a certificate of destruction is available on request. Terms are agreed before collection, not after the equipment has left your building.

    Send the list

A manifest, an asset register, or just photos and rough quantities. Whatever you have is enough to start.

    Get a valuation

We come back with a number, usually the same business day, along with the terms.

  3. 03

    We collect and pay

Pickup and freight arranged for you, drives securely wiped, payment on verification.

What your list needs

A valuation is only as good as the list behind it, and three things do most of the work: what the item is, how many there are, and enough detail to tell it apart from the model next to it. What counts as enough detail changes by category, so each page below says exactly what to write down.

Not sure which generation or model you are holding? The brand pages showing how to identify what you have cover where the service tag, product number or part number physically sits on each manufacturer's hardware and how to read it, one manufacturer at a time. They are identification help rather than stock lists, and a photograph of the right label is usually enough on its own.

Bigger than one category

Whole rooms, and recurring flow.

Two situations need more than a parts list. A decommission is decided by sequencing and by who owns the physical work inside the room. A processing business needs an outlet that is still there next month and takes the awkward material as well as the good.

Not only decommissions

Excess and overstock inventory

Not every seller is clearing a room. A large share of what GTR Supply buys is stock that was bought and never deployed: a project cancelled after the hardware landed, a refresh specified generously and delivered in full, a channel order that came back, or a shelf of spares for a platform since retired.

This material is often in better condition than anything in a decommission and is regularly written down harder, because it sits under a purchasing team rather than an operations team and nobody owns the decision to move it. New sealed stock, used stock and customer returns are all bought. Separate the three on your list, because they are valued differently.

The cost of leaving it is not storage. It is that IT hardware loses value with each new generation whether it is running or sitting in a box, so the number for a shelf of unopened stock is generally at its best the day you first think about asking.

Tell us what you are clearing.

No obligation. Send what you have and we will tell you what it is worth and how quickly we can move it.

We buy the same categories we supply. See the enterprise IT hardware we supply by the lot.

Common questions

Selling to us, answered.

I do not have a manifest. Can you still give me a number?

Yes. Send whatever you actually have. An asset register, a rack elevation, a spreadsheet somebody started, or photographs and rough quantities are all enough for GTR Supply to work from, and building a proper manifest before contacting anybody usually just delays the valuation by a fortnight.

What speeds things up is detail on the items carrying most of the value rather than completeness across everything. For servers that means the model with the processor and memory configuration. For drives it means capacity, interface and rough quantity. For networking it means the switch model and port count.

A short list that gets those right is valued faster and more accurately than a long inventory describing everything vaguely.

Where something is unknown, write unknown rather than guessing. An honest gap is easy to price around. A wrong specification discovered at collection is what forces a valuation to be revised.

How small a lot will you look at?

From a single pallet through to a full data center decommission. That is the honest range, and the pallet end of it is not a courtesy: mixed pallets are a normal part of what GTR Supply buys rather than an exception made for small sellers.

What matters more than the size is whether the lot is intact. A pallet nobody has been through is generally a better proposition than a larger quantity that has already had the good parts removed, because the items taken out first are always the ones carrying the value.

If you are unsure whether what you have is worth an email, send it. You will get a straight answer either way, including where the answer is that we are not the right buyer for it.

If more is coming later, say so. A first pallet that is the start of a programme is a different conversation from a one off.

Should I split the lot up and sell the good parts separately?

Usually not, and this is the most expensive habit GTR Supply sees on the sell side.

The logic is understandable. Identify the attractive items, place those individually at a good number, and offer the remainder to whoever will take it. What actually happens is that the parts carrying the value leave first, and what is left has to find its own buyer on its own merits. The two halves rarely add back up to what the whole would have been worth, and the second half often sits for months.

It is also work. Listing, packing and shipping items individually consumes staff time that the improvement rarely covers.

There are exceptions, normally where one line is both high value and easy to place on its own. Send the lot as it stands and you will be told which parts, if any, genuinely do better separately.

Who will I be dealing with?

A named person on the purchasing desk, listed on this page with a direct line and a direct address. Not a shared mailbox, not a form that disappears into a queue, and not a different person each time you write.

That matters more on the sell side than it looks. A valuation is a conversation: what is in the lot, what condition it is really in, what has to happen to the data, when the room has to be empty. Restarting that conversation with somebody new at each stage is how details get lost and how a collection ends up booked against the wrong assumptions.

Use the form on this page if that is easiest and it reaches the same desk.

If your project has a deadline, say so in the first message. GTR Supply would rather plan around a real date than discover it after the terms are agreed.

Buying rather than clearing?

We hold the same categories we buy. Send a part number and a quantity and you get a number back, not a catalogue.
